Here is an interesting concept our friends across the pond are considering. Unmarried couples who live together could soon be given the same financial rights as those who are married. Many of these people do not realize they have no automatic rights on separation or death to maintenance, property or pensions.
If we were to consider this in Kansas, can you imagine how the courts would be flouded with cases dealing with this. It would be great for the lawyers who would be representing these individuals. However, I can certainly see why England might be considering this. As mentioned in the full story, "you get these very sad cases where people have lived together for 20 years, the relationship breaks up, the house is say, in the man's name, and the woman is suddenly in a position where she is homeless."
