More on Rocket Matter

I and others have been writing about Rocket Matter lately. Rocket Matter is a newly released web-based case management and time & billing program. Aaron Pelley gave a very in-depth review of the program on his blog Criminal Defense Law With an Apple.

Email Archiving

There has been some talk recently on the web about archiving emails in a law firm. While I agree that large firms may have the funds and the staff to do so. There are solutions for the small and solo firm. I have been using a great program called MailSteward.

MailSteward will archive all of your email in a database for easy retrieval. Click on the Archive button and MailSteward will go to work storing copies of all your email text, HTML, attachments, and raw source, into a relational database. MailSteward has a wealth of features for importing, tagging, saving, and exporting, including the ability to export your vital email information in a number of standard data formats.

I have mine set to do it everyday at 10:00 p.m. And, once it is setup, you don't have to do anything. It works great too. Just yesterday I need to find an old email from a client. I simply went into MailSteward and did a search by the client’s name and presto, there in front of me were all of his emails for the last two years. Wonderful tool and great program.

I would give MailSteward 4 1/2 stars.

Billings 2 Review

I have been spending some time reviewing Billings 2 from Marketcircle, the makers of my favorite calendar, contact and case management program, Daylite 3.

I have to say that I am impressed and like Billings 2 a lot. It was very easy to get up and running with the program. It has a seamless import feature included. This enables you to import information directly from Daylite.

Billings 2 is an easy-to-use time and expense billing application for the Mac. With Billings 2, you can create and send great looking invoices or estimates in less than 5 minutes. Billings 2's timesaving features include Address Book integration, fully customizable PDF estimates and invoices, and automated tax calculations for 120 regions globally.

"Create invoices, track time and expenses with ease. Free yourself from slow, mundane tasks and say goodbye to being held captive by expense spreadsheets and unappealing Word or HTML based invoices. The simple design and speed-tuned performance of Billings 2 gives you the power to create professional looking invoices from eye-catching templates, which can be fully customised to match your image. Use template slips to streamline regular item invoicing. Billings 2 is designed to save you time and help you prosper straight away."

I was able to set up custom categories to fit my own law practice. This enabled me to have the information in an invoice that explains in simple terms the task I did for the client. And it is convenient. You can track time while in any application using the Billings menubar timer, with instant access to all active slips.

productsBillings.jpgI like this program so much that I have officially started to use it for my billing program. My only concern is the fact the data base is not accessible over a network. Not an issue for myself as I am the only one using it. But, for those small firms who have more than one time keeper, it will be an issue. I hope that Marketcircle will consider this in a future update.

Portable Outdoor Laptop Chair

72852.jpegI am all for getting work done. But a portable outdoor laptop chair?

This is the fully adjustable, collapsible chair and ottoman that cradles your back while providing ample work space to catch up on paperwork and reading outdoors. The patented BacktrackerTM support system can be adjusted both vertically and orizontally to help you find the most comfortable seating position, and the deep seat supports knees and legs to ease strain on your lower back. A laptop tray slips easily over the mesh arms for a convenient desktop-like surface for books or a computer, and side pockets hold magazines, books, or your laptop when not in use. The chair and folding ottoman collapse easily for storage and can be carried in the included shoulder bag. Crafted from lightweight, powder-coated steel for ease of transport and long -lasting, rust-proof durability.

Treo Rubberized Holster for 650

I just received my new Cellet Rubberized Holster for my Treo 650. One word, WOW!!!!!!!!

This holster is way cool and I think I final found one that actually works. I have been trying to find a holster like this and so far this is the first one that appears will work.

The Rubberized Holster for the Treo is a custom fitted product. Its rubbery material makes the holster a very durable protective solution for the Treo devies. On the back of the holster, there is a heavy duty fixed clip that rotates 180 degrees and locks into 7 different positions. The clip allows you to wear the Treo in complete comfort. At the bottom of the holster, you have complete access to the charging ports, allowing you to keep the holster on while charging.

What's the difference between a standard holster and a rubberized holster? The rubberized holster is made of a much more sturdy plastic material, then coated with a layer of rubber. The rubber coating process makes the holster much more sturdy in comparison with other holsters that have been manufactured since the dawn of the wireless age This is a new and exiting product for WirelessGround.com, and we plan on distributing many more rubberized holster designs in the future

If you have a Treo 650 or 700, you need to check this one out.

The Billable Hour

Product Review

logo.gif"The Billable Hour Company was founded by husband and wife Mark and Lisa Solomon, who are both practicing lawyers. Mark spends his billable hours as a trial attorney for an insurance defense firm, while Lisa runs her own practice providing legal research and writing services to other lawyers. We hope you enjoy giving and using The Billable Hour™ timepieces as much as we have enjoyed creating them!"

Those are the words of the founders of The Billable Hour.

The Billable Hour carries watches and clocks. In addition, the timepieces are a perfect gift for different occasions, including: holiday seasons, thank you, law school graduation/passing the bar exam, winning or settling the big case, closing the big deal, making partner/promotion, new job/retirement, admission to the Bar, new office, and birthday.

The items on The Billable Hour are wonderful and what really impressed me is they don't cost the fees you received on that big case.

Product Review

After posting a previous post today about a product review, I have decided to make this a weekly feature on the Home Office Lawyer. However to pull this off, I need your help. Please send me suggestions, your own reviews and comments and your likes and dislikes of any legal product you have tried. Also, even though I am a Mac user, I suppose I would take Window product suggestions or comments.

But, beware, I use Macs and that is what I will be posting the most on. Two reasons, I use Macs and I plan to convert everyone.

TrialSmart

TrialSmart.jpgFrom time to time, I have mentioned products on this blog. And this is another one that has caught my attention. TrialSmart is a program that enables you to review, analyze, and present electronic legal transcripts, exhibits, and video with ease.

Go to the link to read more about this great program.
